HOMEWOOD, CALIFORNIA
This historic West Shore vacationer’s retreat has been reimagined to serve the modern vacationer while maintaining its historic character. As planners, architects, interior designers, and artists we designed the entire project from the site, functional layout, and materials to the bespoke furniture, graphics, artwork, website, and even the guest experience.
The blighted cottages were deemed to be historically significant and thereby the re-design was required to adhere to the original siting, massing and exterior detailing while conforming to all other modern code requirements.
Constrained to the original footprints of the cottages, the floor plans of the cottages were too small for comfortable modern living, so the cottages were lifted and lower levels were designed. The resulting interiors are functional and comfortable yet compact and efficient. Inspired by the many birds that inhabit Lake Tahoe each cottage features a unique color palette complemented by a selection of refined, modern and mostly bespoke furnishings, décor, graphics, and art.
